Alexandre Dumas is the famous French writer who wrote "The Three Musketeers." He was born in 1802 and his father was a general in Napoleon's army, while his paternal grandmother was a black slave from Haiti. Therefore, Alexandre was dark-skinned. He grew up in a small town and at 20 without money, connections and education, he went to seek his fortune in Paris. There, he became fascinated with theater and decided to become a playwright. One of his friends compiled a list of authors for Alexandre to read: it included classics, memoirs and chronicles. After reading them, he wrote several plays and even sometimes performed in them. During French revolutions in the 1830s Dumas came up with an idea to reconstruct the history of France from the recent centuries in a vast cycle of novels and voila! - he wrote more than 250 books. Among them are the famous adventure stories "The Three Musketeers" and "The Count of Monte Cristo". He wrote so quickly that needed a secretary to assist him. Sometimes Dumas dictated to several people at once to keep up with his ideas. He even wrote a culinary encyclopedia - a massive book about food and recipes from around the world.
