Asterix and Cleopatra is a funny cartoon (and an even funnier French film) from the Asterix and Obelix series. Asterix and Obelix are Gauls from a small (French) village that stubbornly resists Roman occupation. They possess a magic potion that allows them to become incredibly strong, although Obelix fell into a cauldron containing it as a child, which is why he is always incredibly strong. In this story, they come to help Egyptian princess Cleopatra, who has made a bet with Julius Caesar that she can build a luxurious palace in the desert in three months. Historically, the events take place around 50 BC, when Rome was actively expanding its influence, while Egypt remained formally independent. In reality, Julius Caesar really did work closely with Cleopatra, but the palace story is purely fictional.
