Asterix coloring pages are featuring Asterix, Obelix, Getafix, Dogmatix and other characters from Asterix animated film. Try to guess who is who.

The animated film "Asterix," set in the delightfully chaotic world of ancient Gaul, where Romans are more a daily nuisance than an existential threat, teaches kids some rather important lessons—most of which involve bravery, resourcefulness and the curious decision to carry an entire village on your back rather than let a rather pushy empire have its way. It stars Asterix, the pint-sized warrior with more cunning than an intergalactic hitchhiker and a close friend named Obelix, who fell into a cauldron of magical strength as a child and has since lived a life dedicated to merrily defying physics and common sense. Together, they resist the Roman occupation in ways that would make most history professors reach for the aspirin.

Bravery, for instance, comes wrapped up in the form of Asterix himself, who, despite his compact dimensions and distinctly non-heroic stature, exhibits enough courage to make a mountain feel slightly inadequate. The film merrily suggests that real bravery isn’t about size or muscles or the number of historical inaccuracies one can overlook, but about standing up for what’s right, even when confronted by the organized bureaucracy of the Roman Empire—which, let’s face it, is terrifying in and of itself. Kids learn that a strong moral compass and a certain amount of cleverness can be the best tools in any heroic toolkit, especially when physical strength is lacking and Roman legions are inconveniently present.

Resourcefulness, too, is gloriously on display as Asterix and Obelix use more cunning and creative strategies than one might think necessary. The Romans, often depicted as earnest but perpetually flummoxed, find themselves outwitted at nearly every turn, proving that a well-applied dose of lateral thinking is sometimes better than a well-applied spear. Alongside this is the film's gentle but firm encouragement to stand up for justice and resist powerful forces, whether they come in the form of Roman soldiers or meddling historians. Asterix, after all, is a beacon of irrepressible defiance, reminding children that some things are simply worth fighting for—even if your primary weapon is an indomitable sense of humor and a druid who brews potions like some sort of historical mixologist.
