Elemental coloring pages are featuring Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie from Elemental animated film. Try to guess who is who.

In the flamingly improbable tale of Bernie and Cinder Lumen, two fiery denizens from the delightfully singe-inducing land of Fire, the pair ignites their ambitions in Element City—a place where elements mingle, clash and occasionally melt into puddles of unbridled awkwardness. After setting up shop (and a rather important Blue Flame of family tradition) in their little store, the Fireplace, Bernie resolves to pass the torch to their hot-headed yet passionate daughter, Ember. However, when Ember’s temper manages to shatter the local plumbing and summon a decidedly damp and bureaucratically inclined water element named Wade Ripple, things spiral into a citywide flood of chaos, paperwork and an inconvenient romance that simmers like a pot left on high heat.

Before long, Wade—possessing the kind of optimism only a water inspector could muster—drags Ember on a whirlwind quest through the soggy underbelly of Element City to patch up not only the city’s leaky canals but also a few emotional fissures neither of them saw coming. Between sealing cracks in dams with molten glass and enduring the peculiar scrutiny of Wade’s family over dinner, Ember begins to discover there might be more to life than running the Fireplace. Wade, meanwhile, stumbles through his own feelings with the grace of a droplet caught in a whirlwind. Their budding romance, of course, is complicated by the age-old problem of water and fire being rather ill-suited to cuddling, not to mention a lifetime of family expectations and cross-elemental snobbery.

In the end, as Ember and Wade wade (pun gloriously intended) through floods, evaporations and revelations, it becomes blazingly clear that their love is less about chemical impossibility and more about embracing the inevitable absurdity of life in a city where everything, quite literally, steams up. Bernie retires, the Fireplace finds new stewards and the now-glassmaking Ember sets off with Wade to make something of herself, leaving behind a city slightly better sealed and a tale decidedly more heartwarming (and occasionally soggy) than it had any right to be.
