Galileo Galilei is a famous Italian astronomer who lived in the 16th century. He was one of the first to prove that the Earth is round and revolves around the Sun (before that, it was thought that the Sun revolves around the Earth). He made his discoveries using a telescope that he designed himself (in the coloring picture, Galileo is looking through the telescope). He observed the sky at night and studied the movement of bodies. He found mountains and craters on the Moon, spots on the Sun and even discovered four largest satellites of Jupiter (Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto). He was involved not only in astronomy, but also in physics. Long before Newton, he formulated the laws of free fall, experimentally proved that the acceleration of a freely falling body is constant. The church did not like his discoveries, so he was tried in court and forced to publicly renounce his heliocentric views. But he did not argue like Giordano Bruno, an they left him alone. Later, Comet Galeia was named after Galilei.
