Ice Age coloring pages are featuring Manny (Woolly Mammoth), Sid (giant ground sloth), Diego, Soto, Zeke, Oscar, Lenny, Scrat (Squirrel), Carl, Frank and other characters from 20th Century Fox Ice Age animated film. Try to guess who is who.

In the vast, frozen wilderness of *Ice Age*, a ragtag ensemble of prehistoric oddities stumbles upon the profound secret of survival: friendship, or at least something akin to tolerable co-existence. Led by a surly mammoth, a neurotic sloth and a saber-toothed tiger with an inexplicable soft spot, this unlikely troupe bumbles through icy peril with one hand metaphorically holding the others’ paws, claws, or whatever else they happen to have. *Ice Age* casually suggests to children that if even this lot can survive glacial mayhem by cooperating, surely, so can humans with their alarming abundance of thumbs and snack options.

But survival is only half the lesson. The film deftly plows into the notion of diversity and not in the sense of having a slightly different stripe or spot. Here, we have an entire spectrum of evolutionary absurdities who, in any other context, would be eyeing each other as potential lunch. Instead, these animals learn to appreciate each other’s quirks—whether it’s the sloth’s impressive capacity for inconvenient commentary or the mammoth’s endearing belief that everything is easier if you can stomp on it. Children, then, are invited to consider the mad idea that maybe—just maybe—difference doesn’t have to be divisive. Who knew?

Finally, *Ice Age* takes on the monumental theme of adaptability, which is just a polite way of saying “brace for the unexpected because life is wild.” Faced with avalanches, cliffs and the occasional saber-toothed predicament, our heroes persist, showing children that when glaciers metaphorically (or literally) start moving, it’s best to adapt quickly. And so, *Ice Age* leaves children with a glimmer of wisdom: the icy road of life is full of surprises, but if you keep your friends close and your humor intact, you might just make it through the next Ice Age—at least until snack time.
