Lord of the Flies is a well-known book by British author William Golding (1954) and new BBC series. These was also the Simpsons episode - funny as usual. This is the story of a group of schoolchildren stranded on a desert island after a plane crash. With no adults around, the children initially attempt to build a "civilized" society: elected a leader, established rules and lighted a signal fire to alert rescuers. But gradually, fear, power struggles and hidden cruelty destroyed the order - the group splits into two groups, one of which transforms into a savage tribe. Lord of the Flies is a pig's head, the symbol of the savage tribe.
