Mark Twain is a famous American writer who wrote the well-known books "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn." He was born in 1835 and his real name was Samuel Clemens (later, when he became a writer - he came up with the pen name "Mark Twain" which means "two fathoms" - the safe depth for a ship). He began his career as a journalist and then worked as a pilot on the Mississippi River. So it was from there that he took his pen name and the inspiration for his adventure stories. In his books boys experience incredible adventures on the banks of the Mississippi. Mark Twain was known for his sense of humor. He was often invited to speak to audiences because he knew how to make people laugh. He also loved cats - he had several at home and often wrote about them in his letters.
