Napoleon was a great French commander and emperor who lived in the 17th and 18th centuries (around 1800 year). During the French Revolution he quickly rose through the ranks from a simple soldier to a general, eventually leading the French army and becoming Emperor of France. He had to fight in the wars that erupted because of the French Revolution, but he didn't mind. He personally fought in battles and had favorite horse named Marengo (as on this coloring page), who saved Napoleon in battle many times. But he was not only brave but also intelligent. For example, he helped to invent canned food. He announced a competition for the best way to preserve food for soldiers for a long time - that's how canning was born. He also loved ice cream and he often ordered it even during campaigns. At school, Napoleon loved mathematics and when he was young, he tried to become a writer and wrote a short romance novel.
