Ursula is a woman-octopus with 8 tentacles (from The Little Mermaid), which, considering her penchant for overcomplicated plots and a general dislike of anything resembling a happy ending, seems entirely appropriate. She lives in a somewhat damp, slightly spooky cave that looks like a set design for an undersea horror film—except with a lot more glitter. Her skin is a particularly alarming shade of purple and her hair, which could be described as "far too white for comfort," seems to have a life of its own. She does the whole "I’m in charge here" thing with impressive flair, backed by her eerie, yet oddly charismatic voice and she’s always accompanied by her slithering eel minions, Flotsam and Jetsam, who are less about helpful assistance and more about being glorified decorative furniture.
Ursula’s grand plan is as convoluted as it is highly impractical, involving the theft of a mermaid’s voice, a series of deceitful bargains and an attempt to overthrow a benevolent sea king in the hopes of getting a shiny new throne to sit on. But let’s not kid ourselves—she’s really just in it for the drama. What she lacks in subtlety, she makes up for in enthusiasm, whether she's belting out "Poor Unfortunate Souls" (which is a song that could only have been written in a world where sarcasm is an art form) or hatching a scheme that will definitely backfire. Ursula’s reign of terror is short-lived, though, as heroes tend to be much more competent when they’ve got friends, teamwork and just a tiny bit of luck on their side.
