The Odyssey is a fantastic film by Christopher Nolan (as are all his films). But Odyssey is originally a hero of ancient Greek epic poem, The Odyssey (by Homer). The events of this story take place after the Trojan War, approximately 1200 BC. Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, was returning home after the Trojan War when his ship accidentally came to the island of the giant Cyclops. The Cyclops wanted to eat the Greeks, but thanks to Odysseus' clever mind, they managed to gouge out the Cyclops's eye and escape. All would have been well, except that the Cyclops turned out to be the son of the sea god Poseidon and after that, Odysseus and his crew began to experience more troubles and wrath of the gods. They nearly fell victim to the sorceress Circe and survived the attacks of the Sirens. Ultimately, Odysseus lost all his companions and spent many years with the nymph Calypso, but thanks to his ingenuity and the help of the goddess Athena, he eventually returned to Ithaca and reunited with his wife Penelope and son Telemachus.
