Try to guess who is who.

In the strange, bustling world of Seiyo Elementary School, Amu Hinamori—a girl who had somehow managed to develop a reputation for being "cool" without ever particularly intending to—found herself in possession of three strange, egg-shaped entities. These weren't your average eggs, however and breakfast was definitely out of the question. Instead, they were her Guardian Characters, each representing a small, polite rebellion against the notion that we are ever just one person. This was terribly inconvenient for Amu, who had been doing her level best to maintain her cool, aloof image and now had to contend with her inner selves quite literally popping out at odd moments.

As the series unfolds, Amu stumbles through the delicate art of being herself—an art that is, in her case, aided by a literal squad of tiny motivational life coaches. She learns that pretending to be something you’re not is a bit like trying to walk around with a rhinoceros in a hat. It’s noticeable, generally frowned upon and bound to get messy. Her Guardian Characters prod her along a journey to discover that being yourself is actually more fun, especially when you have colorful, imaginary alter-egos to cheer you on.

The adventure doesn’t stop with self-discovery, however. Amu’s newfound friends (human ones this time) share a delightful, chaotic quest to find their own Guardian Characters and, along the way, discover the surprisingly serious art of not taking themselves too seriously. It’s a show where eggs don’t come scrambled but in a custom order, delivering life lessons with a cheerful flair: be true to yourself, trust your friends, and, most importantly, learn to laugh even when life hands you egg-shaped metaphors.
