The Fox and the Hound coloring pages are featuring Tod, Copper, Amos Slade, Widow Tweed, Chief, Big Mama, Vixey, Dinky, Boomer, Porcupine, Grumpy Badger and other characters from Disney's The Fox and the Hound animated film. Try to guess who is who.

The animated masterpiece The Fox and the Hound begins, as most deeply philosophical tales do, with a seemingly simple premise: a fox and a hound walk into a meadow and become friends. The punchline, as it turns out, is a heartstring-pulling odyssey through the intricacies of societal expectations, growing up and realizing that nature is a bit of a meddler when it comes to maintaining friendships. At its core, the film is an unapologetic argument that the universe’s fondness for labeling things—predator, prey, friend, foe—is, quite frankly, a bit daft.

The story revolves around Tod, a fox and Copper, a hound, who despite every instinct in their species-specific DNA, decide they’d rather chase each other for fun than for survival. Naturally, this irks the great societal machinery that insists that hounds and foxes must engage in lifelong enmity, preferably accompanied by dramatic orchestral scores. Through this, kids are invited to consider the radical idea that friendships can exist without the approval of the “rules,” a revelation as profound as discovering that not all food needs to be eaten with a fork. The result is a beautiful lesson in empathy, understanding and why judging people—or animals—based on appearances or inherited roles is the moral equivalent of barking up the wrong tree.
