Try to guess who is who.

In the glimmering, pollen-dusted corner of the universe known as Pixie Hollow, the animated adventure Tinker Bell unfolds with a whimsical disregard for conventional notions of self-doubt and insecurity. Here, we meet Tinker Bell, a fairy of the "tinker" variety—a job title that would seem dreadfully mundane if it weren't in the business of mending tiny teacups for woodland creatures and concocting gadgets powered by pure pixie dust. However, our dear Tink begins her journey convinced that her talents are about as glamorous as washing up after a magical picnic. Fortunately, by story's end, she's come to realize that one can indeed tinker their way to greatness, proving to young viewers that, improbable as it may seem, being true to oneself is a superpower.

One can't discuss Tinker Bell without noting its loud and glittering celebration of teamwork. Tinker Bell, accompanied by an entourage of specialized fairies with all manner of improbable skills (ranging from flower painting to firefly choreography), learns that collaboration is the only way to get anything done in a world where every leaf and breeze has a sense of purpose. This cheerful endorsement of teamwork is subtly aimed at children, nudging them to appreciate that sometimes, no matter how brilliant your plan, it helps to have someone whose primary talent is talking to bees.

But perhaps the most magical twist of all is the film’s unapologetic reminder that everyone, from tinkers to thumb-sized meteorologists, has a unique role in the grand cosmic muddle of things. Tinker Bell discovers that her seemingly unremarkable talents are, in fact, critical to Pixie Hollow’s intricate choreography. Kids are left with the rather uplifting message that, however small or peculiar their skills may seem, the world is bound to be a little dimmer without them—assuming, of course, they don’t mind a bit of glitter in their path to self-acceptance.
