Vernon, officially Hansol Vernon Chwe but more commonly referred to as “that effortlessly cool guy in Seventeen,” made his debut into existence in 1998, in the heart of New York City—a place famous for pizza slices, skyscrapers and an inexplicable knack for producing multilingual rap stars. At the age of five he relocated to South Korea where his childhood involved discovering hip-hop, rapping and probably answering endless questions about his New York origins. As part of Seventeen’s hip-hop team, Vernon’s smooth rap style and relaxed demeanor make him seem like he strolled onto the stage straight out of a daydream. With fluency in both English and Korean and a knack for writing lyrics, he inspires kids to embrace who they are, reminding us all that blending cultures and passions can make life a wonderfully unpredictable freestyle.
