In the far-off, quaintly peculiar kingdom of Rosas, where wishes are quite literally a cosmic currency, lives Asha, a young woman who does what all sensible Disney protagonists do: she makes a wish. And not just any sort of mild, "I wish it wouldn’t rain tomorrow" kind of wish, but the robust sort that tumbles out into the universe with such vigour it practically trips over itself, ultimately manifesting as a small, floating Star with no obvious sense of direction but a lot of sparkle. Thus begins a journey where Asha and her twinkling friend must outwit a rather grumpy king, Magnifico, whose greatest wish seems to be that no one else has any wishes at all.

The lesson here, tucked cleverly under layers of magic and toe-tapping songs, is that real change doesn’t happen when we wait for a genie or, in this case, an adorable celestial blob, to wave a cosmic wand. Asha learns that sometimes you *are* the wish, the only star you need, and, alarmingly enough, the best force for good in a world that’s awash with political woes and the lingering scent of greed. It’s a story that reminds children that they can challenge bullies, even if said bully is, perhaps, the sort of king who thinks green is a perfectly fine color for oppression.

Of course, Asha doesn’t go it alone—her friends, family and a goat named Valentino (because why not) join in her journey, embodying the rather sensible notion that a little camaraderie can turn even the most daunting revolution into a communal event. The moral of the story? Dream big, stand together and never, under any circumstances, let a monarch do all the wishing for you. Because in Rosas, as in life, if you wish hard enough, you just might turn the tide, summon a star and defeat a king—all before lunch.
